Abstract

Sustaining attention to a single task for a prolonged time is notoriously difficult, and the integration of technology into our daily lives can make that feat even more challenging. This experiment focuses on eliminating the psychomotor vigilance performance decrement by converting a standard sustained attention task, that measured reaction time, into a gamified version of the task that is inspired by Mario Kart. By providing feedback and adding graphics that made the task less mundane and look like a game, we were able to eliminate the psychomotor vigilance performance decrement. In the end, there was no significant difference between the feedback blocks, but there was a difference when it came to comparing the standard version of the task and the gamified version of the task.
